How much does it cost to get solar panels?
What’s the out of pocket expense of solar panels?
In 2016, we continued to see the cost to install solar go down, to the tune 12%. The national average cost to install Solar PV in 2016 was between $3,000 and $4,000 per Kilowatt, with the average system being 5kW. That puts the average total cost for install between $10,500-$16,000 after the Federal Tax Credit*. When you pair this with the increased home value, ongoing savings of having an ATM machine on your roof, not to mention the value to your community and the environment, solar is really darn economical.
Anecdotally, I see most of our clients spending $17,000-$22,000 for their panels, BEFORE rebates and incentives. This will typically offset the vast majority of the energy needs for the home. If you include a few energy efficiency updates, LED light bulbs, etc. to the project, expect greater savings.
